BABELSBERG MEDIA CITY
Berlin, Germany
The New Film and Television Academy takes into account several design concepts: program organization, the landscape as a surface and unifying element, the notion of transparency resulting from a graphic site analysis of site and vision lines and a site circulation diagram created by a transfer of film techniques. First is an organizational logic which the Academy's teaching units exist as separate units yet are connected by a surface of programmatic banding which are shared by all three units such as the library, administration, and theaters/lecture halls creating a unifying landscape of prgoram and gardens. The main goal of the cimpetition was to achieve a practical building organization within which the functional zones for each discipline are located within the larger while of "media city' in such a way to gurantee real media production.
