HARLEM BAR & GALLERY
This hybrid gallery and bar is the brain child of the founders of “Art for Change”, a non-profit organization dedicated to utilizing art as a conduit for social change. This new East Harlem location will serve as a non-profit during the day while changing into a gallery/bar and performance space in the evening. Daytime activities include teaching English as a second language and arts related activities. The multitude of programs working simultaneously or in singularity lead to this hybrid spatial condition. The notion of a multi-program site lent itself to the exploration of creating a intensively coherent, heterogeneous single flexible surface which could accommodate a multitude of activities.
