NEW PARK FOR DTLA
Los Angles
In association with Eva Castro, David Ameson, & Claudia Lopez
A competition for a new park located in downtown Los Angeles next to the federal courthouse was dedicated to victims of violent crime. The design strategy is a development of single surface produced by the integration of spatial and programmatic elements. The definition of sustainable is challenged with this design by the very notion of it being self-sustaining.
The park functions as a non-for-profit self-sustaining revenue generating institution with a variety of public programs, semi public and private amenities. Formally the park has been banded by alternative gardens in one direction while artificial topography and water exists in the other, allowing for a multitude of prgorams to flow within a single surface.
